In Sarasota, Florida, a group of eleven students from George Mason University competed in the 2024 Maritime Challenge hosted by Robonation. This was the second year that George Mason University participated in the RobotX Challenge, and this time, they competed with their Wave Adaptive Modular Vehicle (WAM-V). This 16′ catamaran is given to participating colleges and universities by Marine Advanced Robotics in order to complete in the biennial autonomous maritime challenge.

RobotX at GMU’s focus lies in the development and design of intelligent maritime vehicles that possess the capability to navigate seamlessly on the water’s surface. We are a multidisciplinary group of students and faculty from the College of Engineering and Computing, ranging from mechanical engineers to computer scientists. At the end of the competition, we were awarded a Systems Engineering Special Award.
